The Psychology of Pole Dancing: Strength, Sensuality, and Breaking Boundaries

Hosted by Ashley Edewaard

Pole dancing is more than movement – it’s a powerful fusion of strength, sensuality, and self-expression. Yet, it has long been overshadowed by stigma, reduced to a taboo rather than recognized for its depth and artistry. In reality, pole dancing is a sophisticated physical discipline, a form of calisthenics that rivals gymnastics and yoga in its complexity. Many of its movements mirror yogic postures, engaging the body in ways that can release stored emotions, rewire self-perception, and awaken a deeper connection to one’s physical and mental state. This presentation will break down the psychology and spirituality of pole dancing, reframing it not as something shameful but as an empowering practice of self-discovery and liberation.

Meet Ashley Edewaard, Ph.D

Ashley Edewaard, Ph.D.—a Fulbright scholar, theologian, Pilates/Yoga instructor, and pole dancer—joins forces with an esteemed MD/Psychiatrist who integrates modern psychotherapeutics with the wisdom of Esther Perel and Taoist master Mantak Chia.

Together, they will explore the psychosomatics of sensual movement—how past experiences, self-image, and emotional energy are stored in the body and expressed through movement. This dynamic session will reveal how pole dancing fosters body confidence, deepens intimacy, and strengthens the mind-body connection, offering a transformative approach to healing and self-expression.
